SECO CREEK RANCH
Acres: 1557 +/- Acres
Location: Located off of FM 2200 approximately 10 miles from DHanis & 10 miles from Yancey, Texas. The ranch main entrance is off of FM 2200, in Medina County.
Terrain / Vegetation: Terrain on the ranch is rolling with healthy, well maintained pastures. The ranch is 60% native brush, 20% pastures and 20% farmland. This property is covered in an extraordinary variety of high protein brush species, huge Live Oaks and blanketed with thick improved grasses, several large food plots, and an expansive garden of native flora. Several wet-weather creeks including the Seco Creek meander throughout the property providing awesome wildlife and bird sanctuary. There are two irrigated 100 acre coastal fields with Valley pivots.
Water: Seco Creek Ranch has three very nice lakes and three ponds that have been well maintained, producing large bass, catfish and perch. The wet-weather Seco Creek and Little Seco Creek run throughout the ranch. There are four water wells on the ranch consisting of: a 2000' 1200gpm Edwards water well with electric pump, and three electric domestic wells. The Edwards well pipes water to a large earthen reservoir where it then is disbursed to all the lakes, ponds and water troughs. Gravity flow through 4in. and 6in.underground water lines makes the cost to maintain full lakes and ponds very low. Seco Creek rises five miles N. of Sentry Mountain and FM 470 in SW Bandera County and runs SE for 66 miles to it mouth on Hondo Creek, 7 miles W. of Moore, TX in Frio Co. The creek varies from steep to rolling with good soils supporting brush and grasses on the higher elevations to the expansive clays which support the hardwoods and water tolerant conifers. Seco is the Spanish word for dry and was given the name by Capt. Alonso De Leon, who led an expedition crossing the creek in 1689.
Wildlife: Careful attention to wildlife preservation on the ranch creates an unequaled wildlife sanctuary; home to a diversity of songbirds, and breeding ground for a number of migratory fowl. Spring, summer, autumn and winter bring an awesome year round migration of many bird species; thus affording nesting and wintering habitat for birds rarely found away from a river. Buntings, Warblers, Orioles, Green Kingfisher, Sandhill Crane and Tanagers are noted here seasonally. Many species of woodpeckers, vireos, wrens, swallows, sparrows, hawks, owls, and other varieties are seen throughout the year. There are resident wild swans that nest and live on the Seco Creek Ranch and at present have 4 goslings.
Native wildlife and game on the Seco Creek Ranch are healthy including whitetail deer, axis deer, blackbuck, dove, quail, and flocks of turkey. There are a total of two deer breeding pens on the ranch. Whitetail deer of improved genetics have been released on the ranch; a list of releases is available upon request. The one sunflower field attract countless dove making for an unbelievable bird hunting season.
Improvements: The ranch is high-fenced; and an all-weather black top road extends from the ranch entrance to the main house, headquarters-hunting lodge, and throughout the property. 1. In 1994 a stucco and rock main house was built consisting of 5BR/3BA, two living areas, and kitchen. There is a covered parking/portico, and exterior patios wrapping around 2 sides of the house. The main house is built on an elevated plateau overlooking manicured pastures and pristine countryside.
2. There is a 5,284 sq/ft hunting lodge with 3BR/2BA, with western decor that was remodeled in 2012.
3. A 3BR/2BA - foreman's house.
4. Guest house.
5. Several storage out-buildings.
6. Four metal barns: 1,040 sq/ft - 2,430 sq/ft - 1,980 sq/ft and 6,000 sq/ft respectively.
7. Five hunting blinds, ten corn feeders and fifteen protein feeders are scattered throughout the ranch providing year around food subsidy for game and wildlife. Beside the barn located in the hunting lodge vicinity is a game processing area with skinning racks and walk-in cooler. There is both single and three phase electricity servicing the ranch.
Remarks: Truly an awesome ranch that has been well maintained; a perfect, ready-to-go recreational, hunting and cattle ranch.
