Property Description

This 1200+/- acre ranch is tucked away in the Mason Mountains approximately 5.5 miles NW of Mason, TX. This thriving community is seated about 40 minutes from Fredericksburg, TX and about 2 hours from both San Antonio and Austin, TX.

The MASON MOUNTAIN RANCH is considered a legacy ranch, steeped in historical significance, natural resources and bountiful wildlife. In the family for over 130 years, the ranch has been historically used to run cattle and goats with hunting at the forefront. Whitetail deer, hogs, turkey, and dove are prevalent. This portion of the original ranch has a large variety of oaks, very little cedar, brush cover for wildlife, elevations as high as 2021ft with forever views, subtle valleys, and granite outcroppings. Soils range from sandy clay loam bottoms to tarrant rock outcrop hilltops. There are numerous building sites with vista views in every direction.

An intermittent seasonal creek's headwaters is located on the ranch and runs S through Mason county for 20+ miles where its mouth empties into the Llano River. Honey Creek is thought to be fed by numerous artesian springs along the way according to the Texas State Historical Association.

Though the ranch is raw, there are decent ranch roads throughout. Traveling up the hilltops takes a UTV but still fairly easy to get around. Along the Eastern portion of the ranch there is a drop into a valley of handsome and unique granite outcroppings. One feels a bit miniature standing amongst the grandest of them all.

Improvements on the ranch are minimal. Fencing and cross fencing is good to fair, 2 wells, and electricity to the 1900s original homeplace. This family home belonged to the Grandmother of the owner where she and her siblings were born. They used to drive their horse/buggy to school from the ranch and the children slept on the front porch. The farmhouse is currently used by hunters.

Access to the ranch is located off Hwy 29 by an easily traveled 2 mile deeded easement through a family member's ranch. The Mason Mountain Ranch is remote and private with few interruptions. When we are on the ranch all you hear is the birds singing and the breeze through the trees. Truly a special place awaiting your imagination.
