This eight-hour advanced farm and ranch course will give the student an advanced level of professional, working knowledge of the most current issues in farm and ranch brokerage practices as they prepare for the 2022 marketplace. The student will also gain an advanced level of professional, working knowledge of the Texas Real Estate Commission promulgated Farm and Ranch contract and appropriate addenda.   The student will gain a professional knowledge of the challenges of an exuberant demand-oriented farm and ranch market, of revisions in water rights and permitting across the state as we face another prolonged period of devastating drought, and based on a region-by-region analysis of ad valorem taxation, of the license holder’s role in support for client’s dealings with the central appraisal districts.  The student will learn how their practices in the subject matter of this class relate to their duties as a licensee under the Texas Occupations Code Chapter 1101 (The Real Estate License Act), the Rules of the Texas Real Estate Commission, and the National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

Dr. Charles Porter is a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker since 1978 and a certified TREC instructor.  Dr. Porter’s industry volunteer service includes, for the Austin Board of Realtors, pro-bono mediation, Chairman of the Board for 2007, 14 years of service on Grievance/Professional Standards Committees, member of TAR’s Professional Standards Committee, and as a certified instructor for the TREC promulgated Legal Ethics Course, NAR Ethics Update, and is author of “Mediate, Arbitrate, Litigate”, a TREC approved continuing education course.  Dr. Porter served as the Texas Association of Realtors as Ombudsman for Region 15 from 2003-2013.  Dr. Porter has been named as an expert witness in various lawsuits around the nation since 1987, recently as an expert advising the State of Texas Attorney General’s office.  Dr. Porter has a degree in Finance from the University of Texas, 1974, and was awarded a Master’s Degree at St. Edward’s in December, 2007 and has been a full time professor at St. Edward’s since 2008. Dr. Porter earned his Ph.D. in Economics and Business in 2016 (Cum Laude) from Universitat Jaume I in Spain. Dr. Porter was recently elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Realtors until 2021.  He is an awarding author of academic textbooks, peer-reviewed academic journal articles, and numerous academic conference papers. He recently was appointed and has begun to serve on TREC’s Education Standards Advisory Committee. He has served as a named expert witness in over 600 court cases nationwide since 1987.
