Bullard Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences in the Jackson School of Geosciences, and Director of the Environmental Science Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests center on climate and hydrologic processes, how they are preserved in the geologic record, and how human activities affect the resilience of water resources. His teaching interests include geoscience, environmental science, science communication, sustainability, and environmental justice. K-12 and public engagement programs include the Hot Science – Cool Talks Outreach Series and the Scientist in Residence program. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, a member of UT’s Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and a recipient of the Regents Outstanding Teaching Award. Research projects take Jay and his research group to caves and urban watersheds in Texas, the southwest US, the Caribbean, and the western Pacific Ocean. When not there, he enjoys his family, their dogs, and ultimate frisbee.
