Charles J. Jacobus is an attorney with law offices in Bellaire, Texas, and is an Executive Vice President of Charter Title Company in Houston, Texas. He is board certified by the State Bar of Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both Residential and Commercial Real Estate Law.
He is a member of the Houston Real Estate Lawyer’s Council, co-chair of the Broker-Lawyer Committee of the Texas Real Estate Commission and is on the Texas Real Estate Center’s MCE Writing Committee. He is listed in Woodward/White’s “The Best Lawyers in America”, Martindale-Hubbell’s “Bar Registry of Preeminent Lawyers”, and Marquis “Who’s Who in the World”. He served on the Council of the Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas from 2003-2006, chaired the Title Insurance Committee for the State Bar of Texas from 2005 to 2007. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center and the University of Houston Bauer School of Business. He has served as president of the Real Estate Educator’s Association, president of the Texas Real Estate Teacher’s Association, and Mayor of his home town of Bellaire, Texas. He has twice been named REEA’s Educator of the Year, is a recipient of REEA’s Jack Wiedemer Distinguished Career Award, TRETA’s Don Roose Award of Excellence in real estate education, TLTA’s Peggy Hayes Teaching Excellence Award, and the TRETA Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also been awarded as the State Bar of Texas Recipient of the Distinguished Texas Real Estate Lawyer Lifetime Achievement Award, 2012. In May of 2013, he was honored by the Boy Scouts of America as a Distinguished Eagle Scout, a rarely given and very prestigious award.
He is the author of Texas Real Estate, 11th Edition, Texas Real Estate Law, 11th Edition; Real Estate, An Introduction to the Profession, and Real Estate Principles, both in their 11th Edition; and Texas Title Insurance. He is the editor-in-chief of the Texas Forms Manual for Real Estate and Title Documentation, co-author of Texas Real Estate Brokerage and the Law of Agency; Keeping Current with Texas Real Estate, and a weekly column in the Houston Chronicle, Ask George and Chuck.
